At the patient’s first visit, both the woman and the partner will be thoroughly examined and a full medical history will be taken, which should mention any previous fertility or other treatments.
EGG DONATION
In IVF with donor egg, the donated eggs are fertilized with sperm from the recipient’s partner or a donor and the resulting embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus. The recipient undergoes hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to synchronize her cycle with that of the donor and to prepare the uterus to receive the embryos.

WHO IS IT FOR?
EGG DONATION IS RECOMMENDED FOR WOMEN IF YOU:
have primary ovarian failure;
going through menopause either naturally or as a result of surgery, radiation or chemotherapy;
have undergone repeated failed IVF attempts due to poor embryo quality or failed fertilization;
have not responded appropriately to fertility drugs during IVF stimulation;
have a history of recurrent miscarriages;
have a genetic disorder that could be passed on to your child.

Is egg donation - embryo adoption / donation treatment allowed in Greece?
Yes, the programs offered using donor eggs comply with the Greek laws on artificial insemination. Against this background, we offer a program at the Embryoland fertility center in Athens
Short waiting list for egg donation in Greece
Legal restrictions in other countries such as Australia, UK etc. led to a shortage of sperm senders and egg cell donors, since the anonymity of the donors is not guaranteed.
Total anonymity
In Greece, egg donation can be done anonymously. There is a large number of egg donors without long waiting lists, which not least benefits patients from abroad. This aspect is particularly important – not only in an emotional sense, but also from a biological point of view. The anonymous donation of egg cells and embryos is guaranteed.
Open egg donation (not anonymous) is allowed.
Egg donation success rates
Shortly after your first visit, we can select a suitable donor for you. We carry out all medical blood tests and ultrasound examinations necessary for your therapy so that you can reduce the number of your visits and journeys to a minimum. The success rate for pregnancies with donor eggs is over 60% after the first attempt and the feedback from patients treated at our center is extremely positive.
IVF over 50? Age limit and egg donation and embryo adoption / donation
IVF over 50? According to Greek legislation, therapy for artificial insemination and embryo transfer as well as for fertilization with donor eggs is allowed in women up to 54 years of age.
Single women, not married couples, same sex couples
Unmarried women, unmarried couples or lesbian couples can also take advantage of fertility treatment and fertilization therapy with donor eggs. Due to Greece’s progressive patient-friendly legislation, it possible for same-sex female couples to get pregnant using IVF in Greece.

Dr Petros Syrios graduated from the medical school of the University of Liege -Belgium in 2008. He completed his specialist training in obstetrics and gynecology in 2013 ULG Belgium. He practiced at the university hospitals of Liege and also as a private gynecologist at Saint Vincent Rocourt till 2017.

Dr Nikos Kanakas is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Managing Director of Embryoland .
Dr Nikos Kanakas is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Managing Director of Embryoland Gynaecology and Fertility Center. He graduated in Medicine from Medical School of Athens’s University. In 1990 he completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He held a Medical Research Council Training Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine at Heidelberg University Medical School (directed by Prof. Dr. Benno Runnebaum and Prof. Dr. Thomas Rabe) during which he completed a PhD in the 1990.

GEORGE ILIADIS, MSC,
George Iliadis is Senior Clinical Embryologist from the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and is our Head of the IVF lab..
He graduated from the Department of Biology in the University of Patras in 1993. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Clinical Biochemistry with Molecular Biology from the University of Surrey, UK. In 2007 he was certified as a Senior Clinical Embryologist from the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).

He is such an amazing doctor with the kindest heart. I have never met a doctor that cares as much as him. I had 2 failed IVF transfers in Texas so I decided to go oversees and came across Dr. Nikos. My first impression of him was “WOW, this Doctor just called me at 10 pm his time to talk to me” and the next 3 days we booked a flight to Athens. We did a retrieval and embryo transfer with him and it was the best experience. When we found out we were pregnant, he was so excited for us and it seemed like a miracle.
